Floating and Sinking (Room 8)

Today at SCIENCE we did an experiment about floating and sinking!

We needed water , salt and 3 different containers.  

Container 0    Container 1  Container 2

We had to fill each container almost to the top with water.

  Container 0 we left as water only.

Container 1 we added 1 tbsp of salt.

Container 2 we added 2 tbsp of salt.

 Then we added some different objects to see which mixture helped them to float.

That was lots of fun...of course the container with the most salt was the most buoyant.  WE ALL GUESSED THAT BECAUSE WE ARE SMART! 

Science lesson 1 with Trish (Room 8)

Today Room 8 had their first science lesson with Trish for Term 1.  Our topic for the next fortnight is:
MIXING

We were experimenting to find out witch materials were able to dissolve (soluable) and which materials don't dissolve (insoluable).

These were the 5 ingredients we added to water:

Pink cordial drink mixture
Sugar
Flour
Sand
Jelly Crystals

Life Education visit (Room 8)

Here we all are lined up and ready to visit the Life Education truck and to meet Anne.

 Knock Knock Knock Anne.  Are you ready for us?

Please come in Room 8.

 Lucia had to pin the door back so we could all board the truck safely.

 Today we were talking about feelings.  We discussed and talked about lots of emotions, for e.g. being sad, being tired, being happy, being angry.

 That silly Harold had gone for a walk and had got lost.  We had to tell him how to get safely back to Havelock North Primary School.

 Wow Room 8 - you were so focused and attentive.
Wasn't it fun?

We had to look carefully to read the body language...and then sort our cards and decide which picture best suited our cards.

 Goodbye Harold - we are looking forward to seeing you again next Thursday for our 2nd session.
